Also, we'd a guest from Cheng San CC.   Daniel Kwek from Cheng San CC   The meeting kicked off with Vanessa as the SAA for ice-breaker session. Vanessa has been earmarked as one of the best SAA who creates interesting topic for people to get to know one another better. The topic we had that evening was "If you're given the chance to have a special ability, what would it be?" It's topic like this that really opens up ourselves and allow others to know what you're thinking and some of the personal challenges which we're combating. A fun and interesting topic to kick start the evening. The meeting then moved on with 2 lovely speakers, Vicky and Lydia (below). Vicky doing her maiden project. The surprising part was she did it with great confidence without any notes on hand! Absolutely impress...

It's been conducted by Christina, our club advisor, who has wealth of experience in the area of public speaking and won numerous public speaking awards. She has training background as well and has coached many in the field of public speaking. Here's a short clip what Christina has shared with us that evening. Games Night (4 Sept)

Image
This evening's session is both interactive and refreshing. Instead of our usual chapter meetings, we played games instead. Feedback from the audience was that they had a wonderful time that night! During the first segment, we played Bingo as our ice-breakers. Our task is to go around the room and find people who fits the description of the things in the respective boxes and fill up their names. The first three to complete a straight line would win some prizes. We then moved on to 3 station games. One station deals with facial expression, another is word game Boggle and last one is about food (after all, we're in Singapore, how can we miss out on this? :) Quick snapshot of the participants playing games. From clockwise: The Emotion Game, The Food Game, Boogle The objective of the emotion game is to collect as many sets of cards as possible. Each player will be dealt with different cards at the beginning. Each time a player managed to complete collecting a set of...

First Time (21 Aug)

Image
The chapter meeting was a memorable one! We had first time visiting toastmasters from SIM and NTU toastmaster club joining us that evening, 2 new guests, Vicky & Eunice and * drumroll *, more guests and external toastmasters than our own members! :) We had a total of 11 participants (guests & toastmasters) for the night. Small crowd, but it's a fun, friendly and heartwarming one. Table Topics Master, Vincent, came up with humourous topics like: "My fake flower died because I did not pretend to water it." - attempted by Rick "Behind every successful man is a woman rolling her eyes" - attempted by Kelvin  Beside that, our new guest, Vicky shared with us a personal story of how she overcome her personal struggle during table topics.  And below are the winners for Table Topics. :) From left: President, Vicky, Rick Rick also shared with us that it was his first time getting a ribbon from the club. He was heartened and grat...

Mini Humour & Evaluation Contest (7 Aug)

Image
Our club held a mini Humour & Evaluation Contest last Tuesday. It was an entertaining, humourous and refreshing meeting. Unlike usual meeting with prepared speeches and evaluations, the prepared speakers were contesting in the Humour Contest and the champion would be representing our club to compete in Area A2 for the Area Contest; likewise for evaluation contest. Here's a snapshot of the participants for respective contest. Both humourous speakers were funny in their own way and delighted their audience during their speeches. Rick jokes were original, insightful and amusing. Vincent's style was more slap-stick and colloquial. Winner was chosen through voting and Vincent would be representing our club for the Area Contest. For the evaluation contest, it's similar to Humour. Only difference is, we had an eloquent test speaker from Toa Payoh South Toastmaster Club. Record Breaking! (17 July)

Image
The evening's meeting was heartwarming when old members were returning back to the crime scene, I mean, chapter meetings. :) The meeting started on time and program was running smoothly with Alvin (VPE) starting out his inaugural speech for the past 3 months, covering the President's Opening Address as Kelvin was not present for the evening. A pity the photographer had forgotten to take a handsome picture of him at that point. And Clifford (new member) was our FIRST member in the club to break our club's record history. That evening's speech was his maiden speech; yet he stood there confidently delivering his Project 1 like as though he was an experienced speaker and he actually managed to go overtime! Amazing for a first timer! Great potential speaker material! Award presented to Cliff for this first maiden speech. :) Rick had done a wonderful project sharing his experience about Charity and the speech was peppered with lots of humour and excellent use of pr...
