Success (23 May)

The evening's theme revolves around success and as such, the program for the evening revolves around it. Chiew Ping kicked off the meeting with ice-breaker session followed by Alvin's President's inspiring opening address. We had the privilege of having Clement from James Cook University as our Language Evaluator for the evening.   The word of the day was "progress". And it fits in nicely with our theme since in order for us to achieve success in life was to made constant progression. That evening, we also had the privilege and honour of inviting back our past member, Ben Ong, to be sharing with us his journey of life and what he had done to become successful. Ben was the epitome of what we call continuous learning. At the prime age of 30+, he was retrenched from his work. But that didn't stop him. Instead, he switched job to sales and was promoted senior management level. When economic crisis hit, he was retrenched a second time. Undeterred ...

Today's meeting was filled with learning, laughter and love. We learnt more about what everyone thought about the recent Malaysia General Election when Vicky posed us a question on this topic during the Ice-breaking session. We learnt more about the word 'imbue', which means to fill something/someone with a particular feeling, quality or idea, from the Language Evaluator, Helen. Our lovely Word of the Day! And then, there were the four wonderful prepared speeches from our members. Chun Kwang shared with us his thoughts on how to become a happy Singaporean. Mike convinced us that he absolutely hated horror movies. Vanessa informed the audience on the merits of insurance and, hopefully, lessened the fear associated with cold calls from insurance representatives. Our last speaker cum club advisor, Gerald, persuaded us to attend our very own club's bonding session after the regular chapter meeting. It was a tie between Mike and Vanessa as both receive...
