19 Dec - Celebrating Festivities
Good Evening Fellow Toastmasters and guests! On Tuesday we celebrate our last chapter meeting of the year where we reflected on the past year (2017) - what we achieved / have not achieved as well as refocus for the New Year (2018), all while basking in the warm Christmas Spirit!
 |
Ice Breaking |
Hence, our chapter meeting kick-started with a short sharing about what we love about Christmas. While we all had different answers, we had one thing in common - Christmas is a great break from our busy bustling lives!
 |
TM Rajesh with the Opening Address |
Toastmaster Rajesh, acting Club President, gave an opening speech about how we must learn to enjoy the process and encouraged guests to take up Toastmasters as an opportunity to improve their public speaking skills. It doesn't matter how good we start, but it's how we grow along the way.
We had 4 prepared speeches for the day - Marcus, Robin, Kumar as well as Andy.
 |
TM Marcus |
Our first speaker Marcus, on his Advanced Project 4 of Entertaining Speaker, was challenged to deliver a Dramatic Talk about an experience or incident.
 |
TM Robin |
Second speaker Robin, worked on the L1P2 of Pathways model (Leadership Development)
 |
TM Kumar |
Kumar gave a powerful speech on L1P2 of Pathways (Effective Coaching), engaging us deeply with his expressive gestures and great vocal variety.
Last but not least, Andy delivered his final project of the basic Competent Communicator manual where he was tasked to Inspire his Audience in an 8-10 minute speech.
Common to all the speeches that evening, coincidentally all of them touched on the fact that 2017 is indeed coming to an end and it is truly a time to reflect and prioritise our goals for 2018.
We then broke off for a short refreshments break and had the evaluation sessions when we were back. Meet the Evaluators:
 |
WZ Evaluating Marcus Ong |
For those of you not familiar with the evaluation, the evaluator is given some time to think about the prepared speech and give a sort of "Feedback Speech", 2-3 minutes long. Certainly not an easy feat!

TM Robin Evaluating Kumar |
 |
TM Encey Evaluating Andy |
Some of our evaluators who participated in evaluating today were in fact prepared speakers as well! So kudos to them for having both to prepare their speech as well as evaluate another persons speech. By giving feedback to one another, we ensure that our public speaking and communication skills will constantly improve!
Afterwards comes our favourite session of the day - Table Topics (Impromptu Speaking)! Led by TM Andy

Guests were encouraged to speak and the topics chosen for the session for the day ties in closely with the festivities - with questions such as "What do you like most about Christmas" and "What do you want to achieve in 2018".
Personally, I think through the chapter meeting where we shared with our another our goals and why we failed our previous goals, I feel even more motivated to accomplish what I have in mind for the upcoming year.
To end the session, TM Marcus gave us an encouraging General Evaluation of the club proceedings and how we can effectively run our chapter meetings better in the future.
It was our last chapter meeting of 2017 and we truly hoped that this meeting has inspired you., sparking off a flaming passion for 2018. Let's have a proper holiday rest for the remaining week and work smarter, harder and be happier for 2018!
See you in 2018! 3 January! 7.15pm at Braddel Heights Community Club! :D
