7 Nov - Be Yourself

Good evening fellow Toastmasters ('TM'), guests and all! The meeting kicked started with a quick ice breaker with our TME Wen Zhong, where we all warmed up with one another. Most of us answered this simple, yet important question - Why we want to be here, in Toastmasters. Yes, we may be unique individuals with different goals in Toastmasters, but all of us could agree on one thing - we all want to be a better speaker, leader or thinker.

Ice Breaking!
We had many awesome project speeches that week, 5! - TM Wai Kay, TM Vincent Chua, TM Marcus Ong, TM Peter Lee and TM Sajeev.

Our first speaker, TM Wai Kay, worked on "Innovative Planning" L1P2 under the Pathways Programme. He shared a short, intriguing story about cats and dogs, why cats hate dogs and the retrieval of a special ring.

TM Wai Kay

Our second speaker, TM Vincent, presented his project on "Dynamic Leadership" L2P3,  As one can probably  infer, the project focuses on leadership and he shared about his childhood; stories about how his learning of taichi and wushi and the paramount importance of discipline, taught by his mentor then.

TM Vincent

Third Speaker, Marcus, under the CC Manual "Research your Topic" Project 7, shared about how one can ace their interview! Giving us members some interview tips and tricks based on research.

TM Marcus
Fourth Speaker, Peter, under Advanced Project 1 "Speaking to Inform", truly did inform us in an entertaining manner about how one can maximising their Central Provisional Fund, interest and retirement plan. He made the topic much less dry and interesting.

TM Peter
Last but not least, TM Sajeev under Advanced Project 5 "Delivering Bad News" delivered to us the extremely bad news about our Company, how our company has to reevaluate our culture and cut us employees to save costs :(  His delivery of this "Bad News" to us was extremely sincere and made us all a little emotional!

TM Sajeev
With that, the prepared speeches of the day was completed. Before we left for refreshments, it was actually one of our members, Yi Shan's birthday! We got together a small cake for her and sung a small birthday song.

TMs singing Happy Birthday to our young member!

Following the break, we had the evaluation/feedback session from other TMs where the prepared speeches were being critiqued or complimented. The evaluators for the day were as follows: TM Rajesh, Sheela, Abhay Bodake, David Tan and Celine! Meet the evaluators -

The table topics, impromptu speaking, segment of the day started with these 5 topics - topics that were chosen for one to express "themselves" and each table topic speaker shared a unique fact and tale about themselves.

Topics for the Day

Colin
For instance, Colin for that day shared about what he least liked to do for a career. TM Marcus, on the other hand, shared about what he wanted most for a career - surprisingly, to be a tax collector so he can help others! Yi Shan, our birthday girl, shared about her school; TM Jordan, shared about his perfect vacation, which hint hint, imvolves nature and secenery, as well as Irene, who's passion to to help other Toastmasters!

The session ended with a quick General Evaluation session of our club by TM Irene, where she shared how we can improve as a club and how we can make the session more awesome than it already was!

And to end of "Be Yourself" Night, here were our award winners for the day!!!
