Awards Night (1 Oct)

This evening's chapter meeting is one filled with pride, joy and happiness in the air. That's because we've received our official ribbon from Toastmasters International for the recognition of President Distinguished Club award.

Of course, we must not rest on our laurels. We continue to work hard preparing for next year too. We have a total of 3 speakers for the evening.

Christina, kicked off the meeting. She explained the overview of the Toastmasters to new guests and led the audience on to the program of the evening.

First up is Melissa; she just joined us last month and this is her maiden project. Despite her being fearful of public speaking, she had overcome her fear by taking it one step at a time. The trembling was obvious to the front people, but she kept her nerves and continue speaking. A tremendous attempt considering that she didn't hide behind the lectern like I did when I was doing my maiden speech.

Next is Sudha. This is also her first time doing her speech. Similarly, she did an awesome job presenting her speech in front of the lectern. I truly admire her spirit of learning as she overcome all odds of doing a 4 to 6 minute speech in English, when this language is not her first language. This is what Toastmasters is about, providing a platform to help people who truly wants to help themselves improve.

 Sudha doing her first speech.

Up next is our Club President doing his Project 7. It has been close to a year since he had done his last project. So he was both excited and nervous at the same time.

President Alvin, doing his Project 7 after a respite.

Our last speaker for the evening is Henry. A charismatic and eloquent speaker, who reminded the old members of our ex-President, Kelvin, with very similar style of presentation and manner. He charmed the audience with his personal story of how he fell flat on his wedding speech, but has determined himself to do a better job at his next wedding, erm, I mean his daughter's wedding.

Henry, giving his second speech to the club.

Last but not least, we have training by Vincent, club advisor, on how to do Project 4 with ease. He shared about the technical aspects of how to make a speech more entertaining and colourful through the different choices of words, techniques and framework.

After a short break, the program resume with Table Topics. Wei Jian (above) was the Table Topics Master, with some really tough topics given by Gerald.

Some candidates who attempted the topics.

Following next is Evaluation segment. This is where evaluators give feedback to the speakers on how they can improve on their speech. Gerald evaluated President Alvin, Vanessa evaluated Sudha, Mike evaluated Melissa and Pei Zhi evaluated Henry.

Pei Zhi giving evaluation to Henry.

 Vanessa evaluating Sudha.

And of course, the awards for the winners.
Owen won the best Table Topics speaker.

Mike walked home with the Best Evaluator ribbon.

Vanessa had a tie with Mike, who also won the Best Evaluator.

Last but not least, feedback from the crowd on what we've done well and how we can improve.

Wei Jian giving us his feedback being the first time in our club.

Rebecca, a good friend from another club, who constantly support our event.

Owen sharing his views on TI in general.

And how could we forget our usual group photo? :)

Oh, before I forget there's one major event coming up this month too. We have a special talk by Fernando Young. The speaker profile as well as event details are below. So do drop us an email at bhtmc1@gmail.com or contact Vincent at 97692037 or Christina at 90250239 for more info!
