Installation Night (2 July)
This evening's meeting marked the beginning of a new term. As such, the chapter meeting will be slightly different from the usual routine. There was also a good turnout of guests and external toastmasters to join us for this special event.
Vincent kicked off the session with an ice-breaking activity. Everyone was supposed to share their name, a short description about themselves and how was their day. The time was then handed over to Vanessa (below), who was the Toastmaster of the Evening.
Prior to the evening's program, Alvin (below), our club President, gave us his opening address.
Rajesh, a new member who joined us last meeting, gave his first maiden speech. Not only was he confident, but he was also well prepared for it. He put in the time and effort and practiced 10 times a day for 3 days. He had certainly raised the bar of preparation in our club! (Apologies for no picture)
Gerald (above), did his Project 10 again, for the tenth or eleventh time of the Competent Communication (CC) Manual. He inspired the audience with his journey in toastmaster and the friendships and bonds he had forged with the people in various Toastmaster Clubs. He also encouraged new guests to join him in this wonderful journey.
We had the privilege of having Salma (above) from Anchorvale Toastmaster Club to help us as our Table Topics Master for the evening. This segment is where participants can to train their quick thinking skills as questions would only be posted when you're up on stage. Hence, there's no preparation time for you to analyse the questions. Her spread of Table Topics were intriguing, insightful and engaging.
Vivek (above), from Braddell Heights Advanced, volunteered to be the first.
Joanna (above), a guest, had the fear of speaking in front of others. She had earned our respect for garnering courage and stand in front of the crowd despite her fear!
Wang Hui (above), also a guest, took a leap of faith by trying the Table Topics. Despite not being a native speaker and having difficulty with speaking English, she still attempted the Table Topics. It's the spirit of not afraid of failure and constant pursuit for success that our club advocates.
Joseph (above left) and Zul (above right) also took a shot at the Topics. Amin (bottom left) and Jackie (bottom right), both guests, attempted the topics.
Following next is the installation process. This is where the new exco members were relieved of their duties and handed them over to the new executive committee. Below are snapshots of the process.
And of course, we mustn't forget the support we need from our fellow members (below).
And how can we miss a short speech from our President (after taking over).
Lastly, some feedback from our visiting guests.
The final segment, the presentation of awards to our Best Table Topic Speaker, Jackie (below) who charmed the audience with her speech of how Asian men are confused when in relationships.
A sneak preview from Christina (below) about a speech she'll be doing at the following meeting.
