Final Dash (18 June)

The evening's chapter meeting was the final meeting that concludes the term June 2012 to 2013. I'm glad to say it  was wrapped up in a light-hearted & entertaining session.

Chun Kwang kicked off as SAA. This was his first attempt at being SAA and he did a fantastic job warming up the audience by asking them how they had celebrated Father's Day. Many shared about their celebrations and some were opened to share that they did not celebrate because of various reasons.

Vincent took over as Toastmaster of the Evening and set the entertaining tone for the evening. It was followed up with the  President's opening address. Alvin shared an inspiring story with us that we have a choice to focus on the beauty of everyday even if life doesn't present itself that way.

Siao Yan took over at the eleventh hour as the  Language Evaluator and gave us the Word of the Day, "Gusto". Gusto simply means enjoyment, zest, energetic. And she encouraged us to use it frequently during the session. As part of her scope, she would also help us to pick up good usage and areas of improvement for the use of language for the evening.

Moving on next was the prepared speeches. Here, the speakers had worked hard to prepare their speeches. The speakers spoke with gusto and zest that evening.

The first speaker was Robin. His speech title was "Tissue Culture" and he impressed the audience with his sense of humour, wit and twisted reasons. He shared about how the use of tissue paper is a good trait and further supported with a few reasons, one of which is people who used tissue to chop seats are "forward-thinking".

After his speech, Vincent played a joke to him saying Robin should leave his iPad on the table in future because it would be more prominent for people. The second speaker is Pei Zhi. Her speech titled "Living In the Moment". She shared about how living in the moment would help us to better enjoy, appreciate and be grateful for what we have. And she did a fantastic job in capturing the audience's attention with a graceful dance at the beginning of the speech. ;)

The third speaker is Ziqi from NTU Toastmaster Club. Her speech was more grim and related to death. Despite being a young adult, she shared about how we should view life via the spectacles of death to lead life to the fullest (apologies for absence of  photos).

The last speaker for the evening is Vincent Tatan from Whampoa Toastmaster Club. His project is on Demonstration Talk, titled "Packed To Go". Kudos to him for being so hardworking in bringing so much stuff to present for a 5-7 minute speech.

And how can we miss out the most challenging segment of the evening? This Table Topics session is where audience can get to think off the cuff and speak for two to three minutes on any random given topics. To make things interesting, we had the honour of Gerald Ong (below), our club advisor to be our Table Topics Master.

The first victim was Joshua (below), sharing about Crazy Cow.

Vivek (below) shared about a random encounter.

Ragnesh (below) our new guest, gave his maiden attempt on the topics.
He also joined us as member on the spot during the meeting.

Shaun (below) had the privilege of attempting some challenging question as well.

Kenneth (below) is the final speaker. His topic is quite a mouthful though, but he handled it deftly.

The final segment is evaluation. This is where the speakers become aware of their strengths and blind spots of their speeches. It's through another person's feedback that we get to improve, not only as a speaker, but also as a presenter.

To start things off is Vincent Tatan. He evaluated Robin's speech and he evaluated with humour and grace.

Second evaluator is Shaun from Tampines Changkat Toastmaster Club. Shaun gave insightful comments on Pei Zhi's incredible speech and feedback for improvement.

Ted delivered a witty, suave and insightful evaluation for Zi Qi's speech.

Lastly, Kenneth from Nee Soon South Toastmaster Club gave another humourous evaluation to Vincent's entertaining speech.

Siao Yan gave a detailed description and breakdown of our use of language for the evening. Kudos to our dear friend for being such a gracious guest accepting this role on such last minute notice. Thank you!

And how can we forget our winners for the night?

Pei Zhi for the Best Prepared Speaker.

Shaun for the Best Table Topics Speaker.

Ted for the Best Evaluator.

Last but not least, our old time supporter, anchor, friend and ex-member of the club came back down to help us in our club affairs for the evening. Thank you Ben! Despite all the heavy commitments and travelling, you still made time for us! :)

And one more thing, if you wanna join in the fun and learn on this journey, do come down on 2 July for our next meeting! See you then! :)
