Laughter is the best medicine they say. This week, we had an exciting series of events for our chapter meeting. The theme of this meeting was on humour, and some of you might be wondering, "What's the occasion?" Well, this is because we had our internal humorous speech contest, as well as an evaluation contest to take our public speaking skills to the next level! Andy, Jordan and Rajesh took part in the humorous speech contest. Our meeting kick started with Toastmasters Andy, doing a combination of a humorous speech and a project 8 (Visual Aids), titled "A swipe for a date". In an engaging manner, he shared an engaging story about his experiences with Tinder ;) TM Andy Next up, Toastmasters Jordan, gave a speech titled "Mindfulness". He shared about the importance of being mindful and how important it is for one to be living in the present. Isn't this subject so relevant in our society today? So many of us are caught up with working, stress...

5 September 2017 (Tuesday) - Leadership

Image
Last week we had our first chapter meeting of September titled "Leadership". On our agenda, we had a quote by John Quincy Adams, saying "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more and become more, you are a leader". We often believe that leading others will require us to be in a position of influence of power, but is that true? Let's find out... Our meeting kicked off with our Vice President Education (VPE) Wen Zhong leading the warm up session where we shared our favourite food. Once that was done, Club President Vincent Chua gave us the opening address. The word of the day, to compliment the theme "Leadership", was "Encouragement". We were encouraged to incorporate (see what I did there) the word "encouragement" into our speeches, as a noun, verb or adjective! VPE Wen Zhong Club President Vincent We had 3 lovely speakers that evening. Toastmasters Mak, on "Research your Topic" presented on Po...

You might be wondering, what is going on with the title "Dealing with Judgement". The theme for our recent chapter meeting was on Evaluation. What is so special about evaluation? Henry Cloud mentioned "The natural response to evaluation is to feel judged. We have to mature to a place where we respond to it with gratitude, and love feedback." When we receive evaluation, or feedback, do we become defensive and ignore other's opinion? Or do we welcome them to improve ourselves? The chapter meeting was called to order at 7.15pm. Christina opened it up with an ice-breaker + table-topic spun together to get everyone comfortable. Within the first five minutes we had a variety of topics we spoke about! After which, our Club President, Vincent Chua, proceeded on with his opening address. The full team in action! That night, we had three speakers - Suroj on Project 3 (Get to the Point), Andy on Project 7 (Research your Topic) and Wai Kay on Project 9 (Persuade w...

01 August 2017 (Tuesday) - Braddell Heights TMC I Chapter Meeting We had four lovely three speakers last Tuesday - Andy, Dominic, Wai Kay as well as Peter Lee, CC. The first speaker, Andy, shared about his negative obsession with jogging and the effects of too much exercise. Dominic spoke and gave us a short rant about a series of unfortunate events that happened to him last Saturday but after attending another Toastmasters Meeting, the lively and energetic atmosphere left him relived and charged. Towards a more light-hearted topic, Wai Kay, through the usage of visual aids, brought us onto an amazing journey through different tourist attractions! Last, but not least, Peter Lee, CC, gave us a hilarious and humorous speech which left us with smiles on our faces! Following the prepared speeches, we had a short refreshment break and an evaluation session afterwards by the evaluators - Christina; Huiling; Jordan Li, as well as our President, Vincent where they gave wonderf...
